Musica con Andy: A Journey Back to the Heart of Music

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My love for music came from my mother, who enjoyed listening to music, singing, and going to the movies to see many Latino stars. One of my fondest memories of growing up is when I moved to 3rd and Indiana and met a group of kids who were into sports, musical instruments, mischief, and many genres of music. While hanging out on 5th Indiana, I met Latin Fever—a local vinyl DJ who performed at various venues throughout the city. Here, I was introduced to DJing at the age of 17, playing music for an under-21 crowd at Exodus Night Club in North Philly, including many house parties. Those were good times, but as life progressed, family and responsibilities took me down different paths. Now, I’m back, and times are exciting for DJs. There are many social media platforms available for them to showcase their love for music and their craft. I want to return to this world of music. Although I’m not a DJ and don’t possess the skills that today’s DJs have, I do have a passion for music in all genres. I’m excited and grateful to La Mega Rumba Radio Network for this opportunity. They are dedicated to bringing diverse old and new music to local and international audiences. So, please sit back and enjoy the ride!

The Journey of DJ Big Daddy: A Musical Legacy

My name is Junior, better known as DJ Big Daddy. I was born on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico in Cataño. As a kid, I was surrounded by local musicians who some were friends and members of my family who exposed me to the craft. As my passion for the music grew,I later became a DJ when my family decided to move to NY. In a small town in upstate NY called Amsterdam. In high school, the majority of the people I knew were DJs. That’s where I met DJ Jorge Flow. I remember going to his place and looking through his equipment, wires, speakers, car amps, and a radio shack mixer, At that moment, I knew I wanted to become a DJ. After buying some of the equipment he had,Jorge and I would go and practice at times with me at Luis Torres’ house. (“Who owns the mother of all DJs equipment.”) Then in the later years I met more DJs, who were Carlos Torres, Luis Galarza, Jose Fuentes, (my good friend)Pablo Olivera, Enrique Lopez, Ryan and Steven Estrada, Mike Garrasi, DJ Ricky, Richard Maldonado, Julio Perez (for giving me my first opportunity on the radio station) plus many more talented DJs. As my skills were improving and the equipment got better, I then met my mentor, who later became my friend. His name was Alex Torres(Award Winning Orchestra), and he would always tell me what hardware to buy, how to use it, and when. With His mentorship, this is why I’m here today. I want to say to everyone who supported me and to those who closed their doors on me, thank you. To my family,my kids, and grandkids, thank you for always being there for me. My wife Illy Torres (wow) without you this would’ve be possible! I love you, Diamond Girle. For the first six years, I was buying equipment, practicing, and getting better. In 1995, I was introduced to the DJ world as (DJ Big Daddy). I had DJ in clubs in upstate NY, NYC, Buffalo, NY, Orlando Florida, New Castle Delaware, New Jersey, and my home in Philadelphia. I worked on three radio stations, and now I run the best team on the internet radio (La Mega Rumba Radio Network.) We have the best DJ’s from all over the country Alabama, Miami, Orlando, NYC, New Jersey and myself right here in Philly. We are bringing our audience the best sound and mixes with a variety of music and different genres. I’m proud of the DJs that are part of (La Mega Rumba Radio Network.) Each and every one of them are the best at what they do. Thank you, guys. I love you all, and let’s keep having fun and moving forward. (“En Donde Todo Suena Mejor”)(La Mega Rumba Radio Network!)
